Hi, I've downloaded from Jfw to 14 on my laptop. However, I had this problem last time, where if I uninstalled the previous version, the new one won't work. How do I fix this problem, Jfw 14 is on there, but I still seem to run Jfw 12. Help. What did I do wrong?

the easiest way to do this is the following.
Go to the desktop, and press j until you hear Jaws 14.
When you hear this, press alt enter for the proprerties of this shortcut. tab until you hear jaws say something like short cut key hot key edit, and type something in like alt control l, this is assuming you have nothing else on your computer with this hot key. Once you've done this press enter, if running windows 7, you may get an access error, tab to continue and press enter.
Now, press insert f4 to unload jaws, you'll Hear the quit jaws dialogue and again press enter.
Then press the alt control L keystroke you just assigned to start jaws 14. If the startup wizard comes up, navigate through each of its sections making sure to check the box that says start jaws automatically. If it doesn't come up press insert J to go to the jaws window. Go to options, and basics from within the jaws window, and tab until you hear start jaws automatically. In windows xp this will say check box, if in vista or seven, this will say button. If in xp and the jaws reports unchecked, press the space bar to check it, if in Windows 7 press the space bar, to go in to the startup dialogue. Check the box that says start at log on, and tab and check the box that says start automatically for this user. Press enter, and again you may get a message requireing you to say yes, or continue.
Once this is done. restart your computer, and you should be starting with Jaws 14.

i don't think it's the running of jaws that's the problem, possibly you're choosing to uninstall everything, including the vedio intersept. leave the shared components wen you uninstall theold versions and you should be fine. Also there is a lot quicker way to launch jaws, press windows r and type in the version you want to launch, for example to launch jaws 14 you'd type jaws14 and press enter.

The mistake you make is when you are installing the new Jaws as far as I see it. When installing it it runs you through the startup, so you need to chose to start Jaws, and that gives you the correct version.
To fix it I'd just insert F 4 unload Jaws. Do my Windows R, but with Windows 7 move down if you are in the start section so it works and do as the poster above me suggested to start the version you want. Then Press Insert J to open it and in basic options check the box to start it.

to me following the steps outlined above in post 2 is the safest way for this user to obtain her desired result of having jaws 14 start automatically. I did tech support for 6 years for FS and you'd be shocked how many people struggled with windows R and typing jaws plus version number. I'm certainly not saying BLW you'd have this problem, but the steps I outlined insure that there'll be very little period of time wherebye you'll be without speech. Moreover, it insures that if jaws ever gets turned off for any reason on your system you have access to the alt control L keystroke to reinvoke jaws 14...
